Permission Issues in Windows 10

I have 2 machines, one is Windows 10 and the other is Windows 7, recently whenever I download a file on Windows 10 machine directly on my External Hard Disk and detach it from that machine and try to attach it to windows 7 machine, I have no access to any of the downloaded files it gives me access denied. I can access folders and see the files are present but cannot open them.To solve this issue I have to manually assign permission to each files by first taking ownership of that file for "Everyone" account and then assigning "Everyone" full control.I have tried to...

How to programmatically start an application on a specific monitor on Windows 10?

I want to write a program that needs sometimes to start processes of another applications (mainly Sumatra PDF) on Windows 10, version 1803 (April 2018 Update). These applications should be started on a specific monitor. I also want to be able to close the processes when needed. The preferred languages are C# and Java, but any help is appreciated.EDITI've tried to use the ShellExecuteExW function suggested by IInspectable in C++ code directly, but it doesn't work, as applications appear on the main monitor. I must have certainly made a mistake as I am absolutely new to WinAPI ...

Line feed - Is \n\r valid?

In an Windows environment:\r (Carriage Return) moves the cursor to the beginning of the line without advancing to the next line.\n (Line Feed) moves the cursor down to the next line without returning to the beginning of the line.According to these definitions, \r\n and \n\r could be used interchangeably, am I right? It should not matter whether you go down then left or left then down. This question is similar, but it tells what everyone is used to, instead of explaining why. Depends on the context. If you're controlling an actual typewriter: Yes, they're the same.If you're ...

An impasse with hooking calls to HeapAlloc for a memory tracking application

I am writing a memory tracking application that hooks all the calls to HeapAlloc using IAT patching mechanism. The idea is to capture all the calls to HeapAlloc and get a callstack. However I am currently facing a problem with getting the callstack using DBGHELP Apis. I found that the dbghelp dll itself is linking to MSVCRT dll and this dependancy results in a recursive call. When I try to get a callstack for any of the calls from the target application, dbghelp internally calls some method from MSVCRT that again calls HeapAlloc. And since I have already patched MSVCRT it r...

symfony2 assetics yui compressor on windows (path syntax)

I'm trying to get assetics running with the yui compressor and, if this is running, sass. Right now, both don't work. When removing all filters from config.yml and the twig template, it works and php app/console assetic:dump does copy the css and js files. Now I want to add the yui compressor and my config.yml looks like this:assetic: debug: %kernel.debug% use_controller: false filters: yui_js: jar: %kernel.root_dir%/Resources/java/yuicompressor-2.4.6.jarAdding the filter to the template and running assetic:dump again ends in the following error (translation of me...

Delete a very, very deep tree of subdirectories on windows?

I was testing a file management program today and while looking to solve something else my program ended up not checking for moving a directory to the same directory. The result is a possibly endless recursion of dir1s. I need to commit the changes so I'm desperate to get these out of my repository.Any ideas?Basically.. what I got is:dir/dir/dir/dir........./dir/dir/dir It's probably on the thousands. Are you just trying to delete the directory and all subdirectories? RMDIR /S /Q [dirname] from a command prompt should do the trick.UpdateTry this as a workaround:At the to...

How do I use wildcards to delete multiple files

I need to delete all .gr2 and .dds files in a folder. I have tried to do it within this piece of code:del "ToDelete/*/*.gr2"del "ToDelete/*/*.dds"pauseBut this code doesn't delete any of files. I guess I use the wildcards incorrectly. Wildcards can only be used in the last element of a path. You can use a for /D loop to loop through the parent directories of the files to delete:for /D %%D in ("ToDelete\*") do ( del "%%~D\*.gr2" "%%~D\*.dds")Add the /Q switch to delete without prompting.Note: In Windows, use \ as path separators as / might cause trouble. In case you...

UWP Hosted App - Link opens a new browser window despite content URI settings

I am trying to package my PWA as a UWP using the Visual Studio template for a Hosted App that Microsoft has in Visual Studio. There is an azure login button on the login page that redirects people to Microsoft login page. I've specified all the redirect urls in the content URIs in visual studio, but the app still opens a new browser window (leaving the app, I need it to stay within the UWP window) every time I click the login button. Any ways around that? There is an azure login button on the login page that redirects people to Microsoft login page.In general, you need...

Where locally are the Azure CLI 2 authentications stored?

I am using the Azure CLI (2.0 python version) on Windows. When I login like this:az loginIt opens a browser window and logs in interactively, passing back tokens to the still running CLI process. According to the docs those temporary access tokens are stored locally somewhere, as they remain available for a while later, after the process has closed - where are the tokens stored? where are the tokens stored? You can find the accessTokens.json file in the folder named .azure folder in the user profile. Also, you can rename this file before you login it again to verify it. ...

How to create a task to periodically check for another scheduled task and delete it if it's present?

Is there a way to create windows scheduled task that is run periodically to check for another task, and if found, then delete said task and continue checking for that task in case it appears again? You can write a batch script, and schedule it to run.The command line to delete a task by name is:schtasks /delete /tn <task name> /fThe command line to list all tasks with details in CSV is:schtasks /query /v /fo LIST > file.csvthough schtasks /query gives a bit of information too, especially names.Sources:http://jane.dallaway.com/nts-get-a-list-of-windows-scheduled-...

Any patterns for high availability of a Windows Service?

SituationI have a windows service which I would like to make highly available.I have two unclustered servers (Windows server 2003 standard edition). The question is:What options do I have to make my service highly available in an automated way?I can think of the asymmetric master-slave option which consists of keeping the service running on both machines with a communication heartbeat between them so one acts as the master and the slave takes over automatically whenever the master does not respond.Do you know any other ways to implement this?note: Please don't point me to th...

TCL windows dll function that receive as argument and return a list

To parse a list, use Tcl_ListObjGetElements(). It will let you get an array of all the elements and then you can use operations like Tcl_GetIntFromObj and Tcl_GetDoubleFromObj to pick out the values from the elements (according to what you expect).int listc, i;Tcl_Obj **listv;i...
