With shared web hosting server, can't be done but via a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or a dedicated server.I've been reading some info about Windows Azure but haven't found any info regarding: 1. Be able to launch external executable 2. Be able to remote desktop into the allocated virtual machinesPlease advise, thanks!Eddie Yup, you can launch an executable. (Just Process.Start() it!) Note that if you use local disk space, you'll need to declare that in your .csdef file and use the Role...

Normal vs Cloud/Azure Hosting and role of SQL Azure vs SQL Server

First of all let me clear that I am not from a web background so if any of my understanding about how it works is not correct please feel free to correct meLet's say I have a website which I would like to host on cloud because- I don't want to take care of hardware- I want to scale my website as neededNow I am a bit confused between role of SQL Server vs role of SQL Azure in this case.Normal Web HostingWhen I think of a normal website I know that I need a host/server on which my website will be hosted. Host ASPNET pages in Windows Azure Blob Storage?

There's a section of a web site I maintain that has many thousands of pages that are fairly static. They are ASPX pages, but they have no code-behind. They DO have references to a master page and they have <asp:Content> tags so they do need server-side processing. It is hosted in Azure, but the site takes forever to build and update due to the number of pages. It seems like it should be possible to upload all these pages to blob storage and reference them from there. They change relatively rarely.I guess I could just change this from a relative URL to a fully explic...

Reload ASP.NET Core app when dll files change (bin deploy)

Environment: ASP.NET Core 2.1, Ubuntu. In old style ASP.NET, when I did a bin deploy (uploaded some dll files for example), the webapp would detect that and reload itself - very useful. With Core it doesn't do that. I need to stop and restart the dotnet MyApp.dll process. How do I make it detect changes to binaries and reload? There's nothing I'm aware of that will do this for you. IIS watches things like the bin directory, web.config, etc. and recycles the App Pool when it detects changes, but that's because it knows to. It's also a full-featured web server, and App Pool r...

Can't enable CORS in ASP.Net Core web api

I created an ASP.Net CORE web API project, with a single controller, and would now like to call it from a client (React) web app. However, the call fails with "No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.".When calling the same endpoint from Fiddler, the expected response headers are not present. Thanks to ATerry, I have further insight: the headers are not present, because the React web app and the .Net Core web API are hosted on the same box. React populates the request Origin: header which is the same as the (API) box, thus the server (bein...

ASP.Net application switch between login types (ADFS, Username/Password)

We have an web application written in .net 3.5 that we deploy for various clients and that uses a regular Forms login username/password.We have a requirement to make it work with ADFS also. The issue is that we would like to be able to keep both login methods, and have one for some clients, and one for others, so we would like to keep most of it at a config level.Exactly what would be the correct method to achieve this result? You can change it at the config level and choose your preferred localAuthenticationTypes. In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\inetpub\adfs\ls (assumi...

WAF is blocking ASP.NET website due to Scriptresource.axd

ASP.NET (Framework 3.5, IIS 8.5, windows server 2012R2) with Ajax control toolkit is being blocked by WAF (Web Applications Firewall). Following is the screen shot from WAF These are signatures from WAF I tried disabling ajax components at the web page but still getting same problem. Any suggestions ?? It's referencing an ASP.NET padding attack vector that is rated "HIGH". Depending on your WAF this is probably a prebuilt signature blocking your application and may not be directly related to the Ajax controls. CVE-2010-3332There are several routes to take:Determin...
